Sedation Dentistry in Fairfax, VA Sedation & Sleep Dentistry for Anxiety, Comfort, & Convenience!
At Dentcare Now, we do everything possible to keep patients comfortable and relaxed. To accomplish this, one of the most important services we offer during treatment is sedation.
Sedation can encompass any medicine used to dull the senses and/or numb the pain. And in dentistry, there are many instances where this is highly beneficial to patients. In some cases, it may be required based on the nature of your treatment. (Some surgical procedures are just too lengthy & involved for you to undergo while fully conscious.) Other times, patients are particularly anxious or fearful of receiving their dental care, and sedation makes the whole process more achievable. Additionally, sedation can allow our team to work more efficiently, accomplishing what would typically take two or more appointments in a single visit.
Which sedation method is best for you will be determined during a consultation with your dentist and will partially depend on the details of your case. Contact us for more information!
IV Sedation
IV stands for intravenous. With a simple needle (typically applied on the arm near the elbow), we can introduce the sedative right to your bloodstream. This method of delivery allows for the medicine to take effect quickly. Depending on the variety of sedation and treatment you require, you can be wholly unconscious or just enough to make you drowsy. Either way, you’ll soon be entirely pain-free as you relax through treatment.
Nitrous Oxide
Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is one of the widely-known options for sedation. It’s inhaled through a mask and produces a relaxed and comfortable euphoria. (And despite the name, it does not always make patients laugh.) Most often, it just makes them blissfully unaware of what’s going on inside their mouth. Sometimes, they even fall asleep and dose through the procedure.
Is sedation right for you?
For patients with a history of anxieties or phobia, sedation dentistry helps them get the care they need. And, for patients who need a lot of work done, it simply makes it a more relaxed experience.
There are numerous reasons why sedation dentistry might be your best option. So please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information or to schedule an exam and consultation!
